Associazione Giochi Antichi was born in Verona in 2002 with the aim to study and promote traditional games. Since then, the association has grown to the point of being able to count on about 100 members and on a set of about 600 players / volunteers.
The first local events organized by the Association have attracted the interest of both general public and institutions. These events have allowed the Association to deepen their competence and expertise in the field.
Associazione Giochi Antichi has undertaken a number of actions, organizing events and meetings, both nationally and internationally, and involving the most distinguished names in the world of traditional games and popular culture.
Among the various achievements, it is worth mentioning:
2007: becomes a member of Aejst - European Traditional Sports and Game Association
2007: opens the first Documentation Centre on Traditional Games in Italy, Casa Colombare, located in the city park of the same name
2008: becomes a member of the Italian Pop Culture Network
2008: receives "Play Personality of the Year" award at the Lucca Comics&Games Festival.
2011: chosen to take part in Esperienza Italia 150, celebrating the anniversary of national unity, in an educational project, promoted by Regional Office of Education of Veneto and Piedmont
2011: hosts the first World Congress of Itsga - International Traditional Sports and Games Association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Verona
Associazione Giochi Antichi has been cooperating for years with the University of Verona, and in particular with the Departments of Physical Education and Foreign Languages and Literatures
