Giocatori senza cornice

Games in the Museo del Prado collection.

The Associazione Giochi Antichi in collaboration with the Municipality of Verona, offers a selection of images from the exhibition "Homo Ludens" (held in May 2002 at the Olympic Museum of Lausanne), with paintings from one of the most prestigious art galleries in the world: Madrid’s  Prado Museum.

An opportunity to learn more about a great cultural institution through a game itinerary. A journey starting from the figurative tradition of Flemish art, fully represented by Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Joost de Momper, Cornelis Joost Droochslott, David Teniers, Hendrick Jacobsz Dubbels.

From the realism of James Francis Cipper, called Todeschin, to  the most important Seventeenth and Eighteenth century’s painters, such as Pedro Nunez de Villavicencio, and Luca Giordano (baroque painter who lived in Spain between 1692 and 1702).

The exhibition also hosts works by José del Castillo, commissioned by the Princess of Asturias (who will later become Queen Maria Luisa). A fascinating journey through the works of several artists who have dealt with the exciting theme of game.

The course aims to be a starting point for future reflection on iconographic representations of game.
